Autumn Keyhole - Canyonlands National Park, Utah
The vibrant brush of autumn peers through a crack in the Cedar Mesa sandstone of Canyonlands’ Needles District. Water worn “joints” in the stone create a maze of alcoves and keyholes, providing a glimpse into geologic time. The creation of Canyonlands National Park in 1964 was the conclusion of fours years struggle between commercial and preservation interests. Today, nearly 400,000 visitors a year bring a steady stream of revenue into the region and provide a truly renewable resource.
