Awash in alpine glow, the enchanted spires of the Wind River Range reflect in the polished mirror of evening. At more than 3,500 square miles and cresting over 13,800 feet, the “Winds” form one of the largest vertical displacements on Earth. The range encompasses four wilderness areas totalling nearly one million acres. The pictured ridge straddles the boundary between the 428,169-acre Bridger and the 101,991 acre Popo Agie wilderness areas. Together, they protect some of the most dramatic scenery in the Rocky Mountains.
