Reflected in a mirror still pool of evening, alpine glow brushes a serrated ridge of the Wind River Range. The “Winds” average about 35 miles wide along their 110 mile spine and crest at over 13,800 feet. This vast wilderness contains some 2300 lakes, countless tarns, and seven of the largest glaciers in the American Rockies. Sculpted by three periods of glaciation, the Winds are a cornucopia of polished granite spires. The heart of the range is protected within four wilderness areas.
