The salmon hues of sunset wash over layers of rugged ridges in the southern Wind River Range. The “Winds” stretch for more than 3500 square miles, about half of which is protected within four wilderness areas. The Bridger, Popo Agie and Fitzpatrick Wilderness Areas, as well as the Wind River Roadless Area, together harbor nearly one million acres. The Winds are jeweled by more than 2300 lakes and seven of the largest glaciers in the US Rocky Mountains.
