A gentle cloud drifts on evening’s crimson light above the furrowed flanks of Fisher Mesa. Hidden in the shadows, a labyrinth of canyons descends from the distant slopes of the La Sal Mountains. This dynamic landscape of more than 8,500 feet vertical relief harbors a diverse ecology, ranging from subalpine spruce-fir forests to sagebrush valleys. Within this spectacular complex of mountains, mesas and canyons are 167,330 acres of unprotected roadless lands.
