Eroded silhouettes of an ancient sea bed shadow shining canyons below Utah’s San Rafael Reef. The Reef is a folded barrier of Navajo and Wingate formations that rise abruptly from the desert and spill onto the San Rafael Swell. A canyon landscape jeweled with domes and arches, the Swell was originally proposed for national park designation nearly eighty years ago. Succumbing to commercial interests, this desert gem still remains without Congressional protection.
