The summit spire of Mount Shuksan pierces a fiery band of sunrise as clouds swell from the valleys below. Mount Shuksan stands at the western edge of North Cascades National Park. Over 90% of the park's 684,302 acres was designated by Congress in 1988 as the Stephen Mather Wilderness. The wilderness contains some of the most rugged and spectacular mountains in North America.
