The beckoning warmth of sunlight washes through narrow twists deep within the Navajo Sandstone of Buckskin Gulch. A log deposited high above the canyon floor is a reminder of the power of flash floods. Averaging less than twenty feet wide for more than twelve miles, the canyon can be a committing and dangerous hike. Much of its length lies within the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, a 109,400 acre parcel preserved in 1984 by an act of Congress.
